Unity announces support for open-source platform Tizen
First GameMaker, and now the Unity multi-platform engine will be headed to the upcoming Linux-based Tizen OS when it launches on devices later this year.Unity Technologies anticipates that the open-source Tizen mobile operating system will "provide another excellent avenue" for mobile developers.
"Unity and Tizen have a lot in common in that they both aim to make the creation and the deployment of games and other apps as easy as possible for developers," Unity Technologies CEO David Helgason said in a statement.
Development of Unity's Tizen-tailored tools is underway and are expected to launch soon after Tizen devices reach stores. Certain Unity-authored games are expected to be available at launch. Unity developers deploying to Tizen will be able to publish their games in the Tizen Store by late 2013.
