GAME ENGINE DEVELOPER Unity has announced that games developed with its engine and licensed through its Union subsidiary will be made available for devices running the Tizen operating system.
Unity has become one of the most important game engines in recent years due to its focus on mobile game development. Now the firm said that titles created using its engine and licensed through its subsidiary Union will be available for devices running the Tizen operating system.
Union has already licensed content to a number of big name firms including Blackberry, Lenovo, LG, Nokia and Sony. However the firm is pitching its Union games catalogue as a way for Tizen game developers to easily publish their products and make money on the operating system without having to do much legwork.
VP of Union at Unity Technologies Oren Tversky said, "We are very happy to be putting Union games onto new Tizen operating system based mobile devices. It's awesome to be able to empower the Unity development community with more ways to bring their games to new audiences and monetize their content."
The fact that Tizen will have Unity based games titles is vital to the operating system's wider popularity. Apple, Blackberry, Google and Microsoft spend considerable effort and money trying to ensure that developers produce applications for their respective operating systems, as it is absolutely vital for attracting consumers.
Tizen board member and MD of Intel's System Software Division Christopher Croteau said, "The addition of Union games for the Tizen store further expands the growing catalogue of quality Tizen games. Union offers developers the opportunity to publish well-known games and apps for the growing Tizen ecosystem."
Tizen based smartphones are expected to start tipping up later this year, with Samsung having already said that it will follow its Galaxy S4 with a high-end smartphone that will run Intel's Linux based mobile operating system. µ
